Hello writers!
I’m delighted today to share with you a conversation I had with my friend and fellow book coach, Alyssa Pfingst of Amplify book coaching. I asked Alyssa to join me to discuss the phase of drafting writers often struggle with most: The Messy Middle.
Amplify Book Coaching is designed to support authors as they aim to create, refine, and sell novels or graphic novels in multiple genres, providing essential support such as editing, developmental editing, mentoring, and key knowledge that will help you become a better writer and gain the confidence it takes to fulfill your dreams of writing a book. Alyssa founded Amplify Book Coaching because they believe in amplifying writing skills, in the ability to be published, and in the voices of writers out there who have always felt compelled to tell a story.
A Quick Note About Transcript & Editing
Here’s a quick little peek behind the scenes of Truant Pen. When I upload my audio, substack auto-generates a pretty good but not great transcript. For my first several podcast episodes, I edited that transcript into something more accurate and easier to read.
BUT.
It takes many hours to do this and I am currently working oh-solo-mio with narry an editor or assistant. While I love presenting a great product for you, I realized that it doesn’t make sense for me to spend so many hours on editing a transcript or audio that I could instead be spending on writing helpful content for you and/or editing the work of the writers who hire me.
So, for now, as a compromise, I’m providing access to the imperfect (but functional!) auto-generated transcript as well as un-edited audio. (Alyssa’s internet dropped in the middle of our interview, and you’ll hear that moment of technical difficulty captured in the audio.) You do need to open the episode in the Substack app or your web browser in order to access the transcript. You won’t be able to see it in the email version.
If you’d like to see the return of a sleeker transcript you can contribute to my future assistant fund by upgrading to a paid subscription.
Whether you are a paid subscriber or not, thank you so much for being here! I hope you find these conversations helpful. If there are any topics you’d like to see me cover, or writing questions you’d like me to answer, you can reply to this email or write a comment to let me know.
